(part of the series)
I traveled east, as so many do, in search of enlightenment, but not for my own spiritual awakening. Rather, I wished to explore the urge of the Westerner to abandon his own embedded beliefs, to condemn his own traditions and lifestyles as shallow, material and destructive, in order to replace them with a new institution of beliefs. What was all the romance behind the exotic faiths bred in India? What were these precious myths that inspired hundreds of thousands to open their injured hearts and their bursting pockets? Who are the new gurus and how are they gathering their flock?
